Pricing: Self-Adhesive Vinyl Prints starting from ₹40 per square foot
The commercial spaces of this world offer unlimited scope for branding.
Walk into any mall, and you will see endless advertising collaterals bombarding you from all sides. Every available surface will feature posters showcasing product images or companies highlighting their services.
The glass frontages of stores, the walls inside a retail outlet, and even the very floor that you walk on allow scope for branding and advertisement. Heck! Some overzealous marketing guys even print on the very ceiling above your head.
Now, a layman would term all that I described above as simple ‘stickering’.

Our most affordable option, SAV (Self-Adhesive Vinyl), offers high-resolution prints on a smooth plastic roll with a sticky back—ideal for short-term campaigns on a tight budget.
You can also opt for an additional top coat of lamination on the above vinyl print. Laminated vinyl banners offer enhanced durability and protection from wear and tear, dust, and weather, ideal for long-term use. We offer our clients a choice of both gloss and matte finish coating of lamination.
The unlaminated vinyl print is our most vanilla variant (without any frills).
It consists of a very high-resolution print on a large roll of coated plastic. Moreover, this roll, comes with an adhesive on the back (lower surface). Hence, the acronym SAV stands for self-adhesive vinyl
The USP of this product is its low cost.
If you are planning a short-term marketing campaign on a tight budget, this variant is the correct choice for you. Because, despite the low price point, you still get a high-resolution print that will perform admirably well for brief periods.
One step above our uncoated vinyl banners is a laminated print.
As many of you may be aware, lamination is the process of adding another top coat of protective plastic to the printed image. This lamination film significantly enhances the printed image’s durability.
This plastic film/coat is offered as an additional finishing option at our premises for two reasons:
Lamination films are primarily available in two variants,
The choice between glossy and matte is, of course, as per our client’s individual preference. But we’d like to emphasise that, irrespective of the finish you choose, the price of both matte- and gloss-laminated film remains the same.
Lamination significantly enhances the life of the print.
It protects the inks beneath from dust, scratches, and everyday wear and tear. And while this finishing adds marginally to the overall cost, it significantly enhances the print’s durability.
I recommend laminating jobs that need to be deployed for longer durations. Or also for prints that may be exposed to the elements, like rain or sunlight.
The Benefits Of Glossy Laminated Prints
A shiny overcoat undeniably adds a punch to any collateral. And gloss lamination will definitely enhance the look of any photograph. For example, Think of an image of a good-looking model showcasing premium jewellery. A gloss overcoat on this image will make your ornaments jump out.
But there are two shortcomings to glossy overlaminates. And we address them in the following paragraph.
Matt Lamination
Fully 90% off of the jobs that get printed at our end are matte laminated. And there are two reasons for this:
At Orchid Digitals, we coat all our prints with matte film by default because of the two benefits listed above. But, as I have mentioned before, the final choice belongs to you, Dear Client.
And the price for either finish remains the same.
The Print Quality:
No matter the complexity of your artwork, we reproduce it with perfect fidelity at a very high resolution on a specialised plastic roll. Our industrial-grade wide-format printers can produce images up to 2400 DPI, resulting in crisp image quality that highlights every fine detail of your design.
Additionally, our original OEM inks guarantee vibrant, true-to-life colours. Unlike lower-quality, generic inks, our premium-branded inks ensure your printed images will not fade over time.
Since this PVC roll (vinyl roll) is pre-gummed with a strong adhesive on the underside, you can easily paste the print directly onto any smooth surface.
Material chemistry: Unless specified otherwise, all vinyl prints are produced on monomeric media. If you prefer a higher-grade polymeric or cast vinyl for outdoor use, please contact us.
Installing a vinyl print is very simple. The print is pre-gummed, meaning it has a strong adhesive layer on its underside. Just peel the print off the release layer and stick it like any other sticker sheet.
For large prints, you can use a squeegee to gently remove air bubbles during application. This helps ensure a bubble- and wrinkle-free installation, resulting in a smooth, flat appearance after pasting.
Many installers employ the ‘water-pasting’ method for large vinyl rolls, especially when installing custom-printed wallpapers. This technique involves spraying plenty of water on the wall where the vinyl will be applied.
The printed vinyl is then placed on the wall, and a squeegee is used to gently push water out from beneath the print. As the water is squeezed out, it also removes residual air pockets, creating a vacuum that allows the vinyl to lie completely flat without creases or wrinkles.
Vinyl prints cover a very wide range of applications that include:

Positioned above our grey back vinyl media option is the bubble-free vinyl with air release channels. This media has tiny grooves or channels on its lower surface. These channels allow trapped air to escape when the printed vinyl sticker is pasted onto any surface.
Bubble-free vinyl with air release channels that facilitate a smooth finish without air bubbles.
Pasting stickers on small objects is straightforward. And you always try to get a smooth, perfect finish. However, when applying a larger sticker, such as a 5-foot poster, one of two issues may occur…
In either case, the result is a very messy, uneven finish.
And the answer to this problem is our speciality grade media called Air-Release vinyl, or Bubble-Free vinyl.
Air Release vinyl has very small channels on its lower surface. As you slowly apply the print with a squeegee, these channels allow the trapped air to escape quickly. Installation is now easy and foolproof.
Moreover, this product variant offers significant resistance to heat and water damage, making it an outdoor-grade vinyl print. It can be installed outdoors without concerns of image fading, sticker peeling, or cracking, even in extreme heat, sunlight or rain.
The primary use case for vinyl prints with air-release channels is creating premium stickers and decals for high-end devices, such as laptops and mobile phones. If you’re distributing stickers to employees at a software company, regular paper or plastic stickers won’t suffice.
No one would want to stick a low-quality sticker on their expensive laptop. In such cases, a laminated decal or sticker that provides a smooth, even finish when applied is essential. Our air release channel vinyl stickers meet all these requirements for this application.
Another application for this vinyl variant is creating stickers and decals for automobiles.
Regular paper or plastic stickers tend to degrade quickly when applied to cars or bikes, peeling, cracking, or wrinkling due to heat and rain. Within a few months, such stickers often look ugly and unsightly.
Conversely, a laminated vinyl sticker with outdoor-grade capabilities provides a smooth, even, and bubble-free application. It’s the ideal option for car and bike decals.
Vinyl prints featuring air release channels are an excellent choice for wall decals, whether for your home or office. These prints can adhere effectively to uneven walls, including slightly curved surfaces such as pillars.
Additionally, because the material is slightly moldable and stretchable, it can be used to cover minor cracks in wall paint. The result is a smooth and polished wall print.

Weatherproof vinyl prints are specifically rated for outdoor use. And these prints are ideal for branding products or machinery exposed to sun and rain, as well as equipment that typically sees heavy dust and heat. For example, road direction signs, ACP prints to be installed outdoors, construction equipment, oil pipelines, etc.
When you ask any print vendor for a vinyl print, he will almost certainly supply you with a vinyl material that falls in the category of ‘presentation’ vinyl. This standard ‘presentation grade’ vinyl print is great for reproducing high-quality images. However, the end use of this media is strictly limited to marketing and advertising in indoor or sheltered environments.
The standard ‘presentation’ vinyl is good only for indoor use. But the moment you install it outdoors, regular vinyl prints tend to deteriorate rapidly. They start peeling, cracking, or fading. And in no time at all, your printed image gets a very unappealing appearance.
Orchid Digitals in Pune has solved this problem. We can proudly state that we are one of the very few print providers of weather-proof prints engineered specifically for outdoor use.
Vinyl media generally fall into three types: monomeric vinyls, polymeric vinyls, and cast vinyl media. If you’re installing your print indoors in an air-conditioned space, such as a retail store or mall, a monomeric vinyl is suitable. However, for outdoor applications that require greater durability, such as exposure to sunlight, you should consider polymeric or cast vinyl.
Unfortunately, in the Indian printing industry, awareness of these categories is limited. As a result, clients are usually offered a monomeric vinyl without much consideration of its end use. And when a monomeric vinyl is installed outdoors, it tends to deteriorate quickly and doesn’t last long.
Polymeric vinyl is specially engineered to withstand heat and sunlight. This is particularly important in the Indian context because outdoor prints can be exposed to temperatures of 40 to 50 degrees Celsius, while at night, these same prints may experience temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius.
Polymeric vinyl remains dimensionally stable, meaning it will not develop unsightly creases or wrinkles when subjected to extreme heat conditions.
A common sight in many Indian cities is the public transport buses and rickshaws covered with shabby-looking advertisements. These vehicles are often branded with regular monomeric vinyl. This print quickly deteriorates when exposed to heat. And within a few days, the printed images crack and develop unsightly creases. This highlights a common mistake: using the wrong type of vinyl banner for outdoor applications.
At Orchid Digitals we offer our clients a choice of two outdoor-grade polymeric vinyl media:
3M™ is an internationally renowned company which is makes extremely high-performance products. Wyte™ is the new kid on the block, and while it is relatively unknown, it still delivers the same high-grade performance when it comes to outdoor applications for printed media
Heat is a primary factor in the damage to outdoor prints. Inks fade, and the print media becomes hard and cracks. Additionally, outdoor prints are exposed to rain, snow, dust, and other elements, which accelerate the deterioration of your vinyl print.
Another reason why regular vinyl prints fail in outdoor conditions is the glue that bonds the print to the surface beneath. This adhesive weakens over time, and the glue securing the print to the surface beneath begins to lose its grip. The print starts retracting from the edges, leaving ugly glue marks and stains on the sides. The prints also develop ugly creases and wrinkles.
So let us see how polymeric vinyl is engineered to withstand this abuse.
Both the polymeric vinyls we offer under the 3M™ and Wyte™ brands have an excellent service temperature range, all the way from -20°C to +90°C.
Our weather-resistant vinyl features a strong acrylate-based adhesive that doesn’t harden over time, ensuring a durable bond between the banner and the surface it is pasted on. This results in a smooth, wrinkle-free finish that lasts for years.
But the bulletproof vinyl is only half the story.
Our polymeric vinyl banners also have a layer of lamination applied over the print. This lamination film adds a protective coating over the printed image. The lamination film is also polymeric and designed to withstand extreme temperatures. It further extends the print’s lifespan by shielding it from dust, water, scratches, rain, snow, and other environmental elements.
Warranty: Polymeric vinyls are slightly more expensive than standard market vinyl prints, but this extra cost provides significantly improved performance, which is guaranteed by Orchid Digitals.
If requested, a written warranty from 3M™ or Wyte™ can be provided confirming their outdoor performance. While these companies typically offer a three-year outdoor warranty, in our experience, these prints often last much longer, sometimes up to a decade, without deterioration.

Cast vinyl prints are specifically rated for outdoor use and can withstand extreme weather conditions without deteriorating. Both the cast vinyls we offer under the 3M™ and Wyte™ brands have an excellent service temperature range, all the way from -60°C to +105°C. This means you can apply these vinyls to machinery and equipment in Arctic conditions, or even to machinery that must be operated in the deserts of the Sahara.
So, whether you’re branding an aeroplane that will fly through the stratosphere, applying vinyl to a ship that navigates salty seas, or vehicle-wrapping your supercar, contact us at Orchid Digitals. We’ll use cast vinyl to ensure that your stickering is perfect.
These high-grade vinyl prints have an additional remarkable feature: a strong adhesive that ensures excellent adhesion to any surface.
The adhesive on the underside of our all-weather cast vinyl prints is acrylate-based, unlike the solvent-based glue used in regular vinyl prints. I won’t delve into the technical differences between these adhesives, but I will note that acrylate adhesives outperform solvent-based ones significantly.
Once applied, this special glue creates a very strong bond between the print and the substrate beneath. This ensures that the print does not peel off from the edges, even after years of exposure to the elements in the field. This results in a smooth, wrinkle-free finish that lasts for years.
But the bulletproof strength vinyl is only half the story.
One additional feature of this cast vinyl variant is its ability to conform to curved surfaces. Regular vinyl prints are only suitable for flat substrates; applying them to uneven surfaces like vehicles can cause distortion or creasing. Remember, most standard vinyl variants are mainly used for presentation or display purposes.
In contrast, extreme-weather vinyl prints have some stretch. Here in Pune, we call this ‘chivat pana’ (a Marathi term). These prints can be stretched and moulded around curved areas, making them perfect for vehicle branding.
They allow for seamless car wraps, where the graphic appears indistinguishable from the car’s paint. For custom prints on your curvy supercar, this premium vinyl would be the ideal choice.
Our cast vinyl banners also have a layer of lamination applied over the print. This lamination film adds a protective coating over the printed image. The lamination film is also cast and designed to withstand extreme temperatures. It further extends the print’s lifespan by shielding it from dust, water, scratches, rain, snow, and other environmental elements.

When applying cast vinyl on vehicles, installers often use a heat gun. The heat makes the vinyl slightly stretchable, allowing it to be easily pulled around complex curves and surfaces on an automobile. As the print cools, it fully conforms to the vehicle’s shape. This results in a finish that is so smooth and seamless that it’s almost impossible to tell where the vehicle’s original paint ends and the print begins.
Many installers employ the ‘water-pasting’ method for large vinyl rolls, especially when installing custom-printed wallpapers. This technique involves spraying plenty of water on the wall where the vinyl will be applied.

Textured vinyl prints feature a subtle texture that provides a luxurious appearance and tactile quality to your image. These prints not only look excellent but also add a physical dimension that enhances the overall feel.
All the vinyl variants described above have a smooth and even front face. This smoothness makes high-resolution photo reproductions possible.
However, when you hold a premium wedding invitation, you’ll notice its distinctive texture. This texture serves two main purposes: it provides a satisfying tactile sensation and makes your message appear more luxurious.
Similarly, our textured vinyl rolls operate on a comparable principle. Prints or photographs on these rolls are immediately enhanced, giving them a richer and more striking appearance.
At Orchid Digital, we offer a variety of textures for our clients to choose from, including leather, linen, rough stone-like stucco, and more. Regardless of the texture you select for your vinyl print, the price remains unchanged.

We recommend textured vinyl, mainly for interior applications. If you have a painting that needs to be reproduced or a family portrait or an image of a deity, it makes sense to opt for this variant.
A print of a painting on plain vinyl will look like a photo. But the same image printed on textured vinyl will make it look like a hand-drawn painting by an artist.
Textured wall prints also look absolutely stunning and tend to completely change the look of your home interiors.

Add a metallic tint to your images of products, vehicles, idols, and more with our specialised metallic vinyl media. Metallic foils are also available in a variety of finishes, such as gloss, sheen, and glitter.
Metallic Vinyl has a lustrous, shiny, or glossy finish; this will give your print an attractive, glamorous look. |
Metallic foil prints are rarely used. But when they are deployed, they are certain to grab eyeballs. As the name suggests, these foils have a silver/chromium finish to your print.
And this tint makes your print jump out.
Anything in yellow is instantly converted to gold. Anything in grey gets a classy-looking silverish hue. This happens because the metallic foil adds its own hue and tint to the image reproduced on the metallic base beneath it.
So, if you have an image of a supercar with chrome details, an image of a God decorated with golden ornaments, or a product featuring many metallic components (such as a close-up of a Rolex watch), using a metal foil print can enhance the premium appearance and quality of your presentation.
At Orchid Digitals, we offer three different finishes of metal foil prints:
Our glitter metallic variant has a light texture on the front face, which makes the metallic surface sparkle. Place a lamp on the glittering metallic surface, and you will see thousands of tiny stars shining.
Again, this variant is better suited to interior decoration applications than to corporate communications.

Grey-back vinyl has a dark grey or black colour on the liner behind it. This liner masks older prints beneath and enables you to over-paste existing print collaterals.
Every marketing agency needs to be aware of the grey-back or black-back vinyl variant.
This product performs exactly like a regular print of vinyl (as described above). As such, it has a coated top surface to receive inks and enable high-quality photo reproduction.
But the one major difference lies hidden on the surface behind.
Turn the print over, and you will see a layer underneath. And this dark-coloured layer serves one purpose…
It allows you to over-paste our print on an existing print or an older print pasted beforehand.
Collaterals in a mall are changed repeatedly, and that too at short intervals. And there is a substantial effort required to peel the older print. A faster alternative for them would be to order our grey-back vinyl and simply stick it onto existing posters.
The grey colour completely masks the images beneath, and your marketing collateral becomes as good as new, and that too with minimal effort.
Also, if we use standard white vinyl in this situation, we risk the image beneath showing through the print on top. Our grey back variant helps prevent this.
Let me elaborate with an example.
In malls and superstores, marketing collateral (like posters) needs to be constantly updated. A ‘discount’ poster may have to be replaced with a ‘new arrivals’ message. Diwali turns towards Christmas, and the advertisements need to change accordingly.
In such a scenario, changing an entire poster by peeling the same, smoothening the base wall and then repasting a new poster in its place is similar to watering your garden plants in a heavy downpour — both things are a waste of time.
Grey-back vinyl prints are the better alternative for this situation. No, they won’t do anything for those poor, drowning plants :-). But they will definitely reduce an advertising agency’s stress.

This variant is our most popular poster panel, with a very simple construction. You get a high-resolution photo print reproduced on an extremely lightweight PVC plastic sheet. If you are on a budget, you can opt for the 3 mm thick plastic shape sheet. Alternatively, go for the slightly more premium 5 mm thick sunburn, which is more rigid and has a more premium feel.
A print on our 3-mm-thick sunboard is our most popular item. Besides being visually appealing, it is also very economical.
You can use a stud cap to mount it on the wall. Additionally, a 3 mm-thick sunboard is so lightweight that you can attach it to a wall or glass surface with double-sided tape.
We recommend choosing a 3 mm-thick print only if you can provide extra support. For instance, if you plan to drill the poster into the wall, opt for a 3 mm-thick PVC sheet to save money.
However, for prints that need more strength, or for prints that need to stand erect all by themselves, you might prefer the thicker 5-mm foamsheet variant for your project.

A 3-mm thick sunboard print gets the job done in most use cases. However, the material lacks sufficient strength to stand on its own. For example, if you place this sunboard print on an easel stand, it may not stand upright, or it may bend in the centre. Alternatively, you might require a more premium-looking PVC sheet print.
We also offer sunboard prints that are 5 mm thick, a more premium option than 3 mm prints. Along with a classy appearance, this material is stronger. A 5-mm-thick sunboard will not dent as easily as a 3 mm sheet. When held in the hand, or even when this thicker sheet is installed on a wall, it gives a sturdier look and is more impressive than the 3-mm-thick sunboard print.
The 5 mm sunboard is also required for smaller-sized prints. For example, if a 3 mm thick, handheld print (like a restaurant menu card) wilts, it will create a bad impression. In this case, using thicker and more rigid material makes sense. When the same menu card is printed on a 5MM thick sunboard sheet, it stands stiff and erect in the client’s hands and gives off a more premium feel
Moreover, while most of our competitors stop at 5 mm, Orchid Digitals offers prints on WPC sheets as thick as 10 mm and 15 mm, as you will see in the next section.

Since they are extremely lightweight, sunboard/foam sheet prints are also very easy to install on the walls inside your office or even on the glass partitions.
Sunboard foam sheet prints have numerous uses in advertising and product presentation. Here is a list of some of these applications.
But these posters are referred to as vinyl (or self-adhesive vinyl) in the print industry. And here is a one-sentence summary of this product:
And these prints can then be pasted on any smooth surface like a wall or a glass panel to display a business’s products and services in an eye-catching manner.
Photographers, advertisers and interior designers all love to use vinyl as a medium to display their images and designs using vinyl as a medium because:
There is no restriction on the size of the image you can print. You can order a huge 5-foot poster or an entire room-spanning wall print.
The end use of vinyl prints is limited only by your imagination. Read on to explore the variants of this product available at Orchid Digitals.

Sunboard foam sheet prints have numerous uses in advertising and product presentation. Here is a list of some of these applications.
Self-adhesive vinyl prints are a highly versatile medium suitable for various applications across multiple industries. For instance, self-adhesive vinyl (SAV) can be utilised for branding and product promotion in department stores or as wall prints to enhance home decor.
A vinyl print can be used to create anything from small stickers to large banners or even a print that wraps an entire building!
Vinyl is a material that can be used to create thumbnail-sized stickers or building-sized banners.
Vinyl can be used to brand the humble auto rickshaw, a supercar like a Mercedes, and everything in between!
This material is also available in various qualities and at multiple price points.
At Orchid Digitals, we sell low-cost prints at rupees 40 per square foot for short-term ad campaigns. At the other end of the spectrum, we also deliver high-grade vinyl for use in extreme weather conditions.
These outdoor-grade prints have a temperature tolerance ranging from -60 degrees centigrade to +107 degrees centigrade. The prints last for a lifetime and cost over rupees 200 per square foot.
So reach out to us if you need to brand a vinyl logo on your aircraft 🙂
But jokes apart, here is a list of the varied applications of inkjet-printed vinyl. Although this list is fairly exhaustive, it is by no means comprehensive.
Signboards in factories, shop floors, office complexes and even housing societies are all made from vinyl posters. These signs are pretty durable. They are waterproof and do not fade in the sunlight.
For example, a safety sign displaying ‘Rules and Regulations’ at an outdoor location, such as a public pool, must be weather-resistant. A UV laminated vinyl print is weather-resistant and will not crack or peel in harsh sunlight.
High-grade vinyl stickers are ideal for product branding, merchandise, and reproducing logos. At Orchid Digitals, we supply kiss-cut and embossed stickers made from vinyl prints.
These premium-quality stickers are used for product labels, machine information panels, decals for laptops and mobile devices, and more.
These vinyl stickers are also waterproof and scratch-resistant.
Every advertisement poster that you see in malls and supermarkets is made from vinyl. Product images look fabulous when printed at high resolutions on this media.
Further, advertisers need to deploy large-scale communications in such environments to attract prospective customers. And when you work with large rolls of vinyl, there is no bar on the size of your prints.
Finally, a vinyl poster is a very economical option and helps keep your marketing budget under control. This low cost also enables you to change or update your posters on a regular basis without impacting your bottom line.
One can recreate photographs at an extremely high resolution on vinyl media. So, if you need a large-sized reproduction of your family portraits or nature photography, this product would be a perfect choice.
Interior decorators and architects use custom-printed wallpapers to enhance the interiors of office spaces and homes. And they use wall stickers made of vinyl to achieve this.
These prints are so large that they cover walls from the ceiling to the floor. Moreover, you can display personalised designs, corporate colours, logos, and product images on your walls via this medium.
Advertising banners and hoardings have two properties. They are humongous, and they have a low per-square-foot cost. These two properties enable marketing professionals to effectively communicate their messages to the largest audience at the lowest possible cost.
And vinyl banners fulfil these two conditions perfectly. The large hoardings one sees on roads and inside supermarkets are all printed on vinyl, as this is an optimal medium for advertising.
Commercial vehicles provide a wonderful opportunity for advertising and product promotion. Publicly owned vehicles like busses, cabs, trains, and rickshaws routinely lease out space to ad companies who in turn paste vinyl posters on the same.
Privately owned company vehicles also carry their corporate colours and logos cut from printable vinyl.
The ad campaign on the former is generally short-lived. So the media used for branding bus and rickshaw hoods is of low quality but highly economical, Corporate logos pasted on private fleets, on the other hand, have to last a lifetime. Here we use high-grade and long-lasting vinyl prints.
Vinyl prints are like that kid in class who excels in studies, is excellent in arts and crafts, and also excels in sports. Think of a good feature, and that kid (or our vinyl print) will possess the same. And to stretch that analogy to the breaking point, just like that kid, vinyl prints are also popular.
Here are some compelling reasons to consider this product.
Vinyl posters offer fantastic value for money. And who would say no to anything that is pleasing to the eyes and light to your wallet?
Marketing your product is extremely important. And if that marketing activity is completed at a highly economical price point, it is like the cherry on the cake.
Vinyl is primarily made of plastic. This means that it is non-tearable, waterproof and scratch-resistant.
And our all-weather vinyl variant breaks all barriers of durability. Just like the value of Pi (ℼ), their life does not end.
Until a couple of decades ago, the maximum size of a photograph you could order at a photo outlet was A3 (a foot and a half-sized picture). However, the technology has advanced to the point where images tens of feet (and larger) are now par for the course.
Once printed, we courier the finished job to our remote clients. However, for our customers in Pune, we also have a team on standby to assist with installation.
The turnaround time at Orchid Digitals is faster than the speed of light 😊. Throw a 5000 square foot job at us and you will probably find yourself carrying it home by nightfall.
Many of our clients have walked in, placed an order, stepped out for a cup of coffee, and returned to pick up the finished product.
And there is a reason for this. I state with all humility that…
We carry the widest variety of stocks here in Pune, and we have a substantial machinery setup with a significant production capability.
Our clients often inquire about the size limitations of a vinyl banner. And we assure them that we can produce prints of any size required.
Print shops print out vinyl posters on wide-format inkjet printers. Wide-format printers use liquid inks to reproduce high-resolution images and photos on the above rolls of vinyl.
Here is how they use the same machines to create prints hundreds of feet in size.
Vinyl media is supplied in huge rolls, very much like the rolls of cloth, you see in a tailor’s shop. These media rolls are hundreds of feet long. And they are generally 3, 4 or 5 feet wide.
This means that you can opt for a single, seamless print having a width of 5 feet and a length of 100 feet (and even more). This large-sized printing ability can help us meet the requirements of most customers.
But if we need to go even larger, we use a ‘tile printing’ technique to generate print jobs in any size you want.
Let us consider an application like custom wallpaper prints where large-sized prints are the norm. These huge prints are never printed in one piece but rather in smaller, manageable tiles of 3, 4 or 5 feet in width.
To cover a large area like a wall, we first break the artwork into smaller sections or tiles. These sections are printed individually on the inkjet printer. At the time of installation, these discrete sections are then combined to form one continuous image.
For example,
If the wall is twelve feet wide and ten feet in height, the print is broken into three vertical sections of 4 X 10 feet. These are later strategically pasted side by side to give you the look of a continuous, one-piece image.
Tiling is typically done in design software like CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator.
Here is a quick look at the use cases for the same.
Hard solvent prints are an entry-level solution. These prints are used for low-cost, mass advertising campaigns. For example, posters on rickshaw hoods are changed every fortnight. Similarly, ads on the sides of municipal buses are also short-lived.
Solvent prints have a low price point and can only manage to deliver low-resolution prints. But this lower quality does not really matter. Their lower cost makes solvent prints ideal for large but short-lived advertising campaigns that have to be conducted on a tight budget.
Eco-solvent prints currently account for most of the commercial printing that takes place in the industry. Eco-solvent prints are a very high-quality product with an extremely affordable price point.
You need high-quality prints in malls, restaurants, corporate offices, retail stores, exhibitions, trade shows, etc. All these locations have high-end clientele evaluating the content on these posters.
So a high-quality print is an absolute must for communication that will influence the purchase decision of high-value products. Finally, the images at these locations also need to remain in pristine condition for longer durations.
Eco-solvent vinyl printing easily meets all the above requirements.
At Orchid Digitals, we have multiple eco-solvent printers churning out photo-quality prints at 600 DPI and higher.
Ultraviolet vinyl printing is the latest technology in the printing industry. The main USP of UV ink prints is that they are extremely high resolution and very, very rugged.
Ultraviolet prints are ideal for high-stress environments like vehicle branding, vinyl stickers for outdoor machinery like generators, solar tanks, cranes, construction equipment, etc.
UV inks do not fade in the sun. These inks are also waterproof and have a high degree of resistance to scratches and abrasions. Road and direction signs are almost universally printed on UV machines these days.
UV printers are also used for speciality applications, like raised effect prints, white ink prints, shape cut decals, etc.
Pro Tip: In the above paragraphs, we have used phrases like ‘different printing inks,’ ‘wide format printing machines’, ‘solvent’, ‘eco-solvent printers’,
These are the technologies and equipment used in print houses to produce the right kind of prints for various applications and at different price points. If you are not familiar with these terms, here are some comprehensive blog posts that will provide a better understanding of the printing machines and inks used in the print industry.
For now, simply understand that with various types of inks, printing resolutions, vinyl media, and adhesives, we can create prints for diverse commercial applications.
We just saw that various inks and printing machine options are available to produce vinyl banners. Similarly, print shops also stock different types of vinyl rolls to cater to different applications.
For example, we have matt and gloss finish vinyl sheets, transparent vinyl prints, and even rolls of textured vinyl. Do jump to this very detailed post covering these different types of media.
However, vinyl rolls are also classified into various categories based on their quality, which plays a crucial role in determining the final print’s appearance and longevity as well as the cost involved.
When you visit a print shop, you may hear your vendor casually mention terms like calendared vinyl, monomeric vinyl, and cast vinyl, each representing a distinct type of vinyl with unique characteristics. Moreover, there is a significant price difference between each of these categories as well.
Calendared vinyl is produced by passing raw vinyl through a series of heated rollers, resulting in a thicker, stiffer material. This type is generally more cost-effective, making it a suitable choice for short-term projects such as promotional graphics, banners, and temporary signs.
It’s essential to understand that while it offers affordability, calendared vinyl may not hold up well in harsh outdoor conditions for extended periods.
All our standard prints meant for advertising and marketing purposes are made from calendared vinyl.
Calendared vinyl is manufactured from a less pliable material than cast vinyl. While this material works beautifully for flat surfaces, it cannot really be adapted for uneven surface applications. Also, calendared vinyl has significantly less environmental tolerance. They are unsuited for use in harsh weather conditions.
But the one point in favour of calendared vinyl is its low price point.
This makes them ideal for flat posters and advertising communications because these prints are generally placed indoors and do not have a very long-term utility.
Most of the vinyl variants listed above (except the outdoor weather vinyl media) are either calendered or monomeric. Our outdoor grade, extreme weather vinyl falls in the cast vinyl category.
Cast vinyl represents the pinnacle of vinyl quality. It is made by pouring liquid vinyl into a mold, which allows for a thinner and more conformable product. This type excels in high-performance applications, such as intricate vehicle wraps and long-lasting signage.
Cast vinyl is known for its superior durability and resistance to environmental factors, providing vibrant colours and exceptional detail that can withstand the test of time.
Cast vinyl media is of high quality and essential for premium printing applications, ensuring the printed image remains pristine and vibrant even after being installed in outdoor locations for many years. This vinyl variant can withstand temperature extremes such as heat and cold, as well as rain and snow. And listed below are the primary features of a cast vinyl print.
Most vinyl prints are primarily used for marketing and advertisement applications like creating posters that are applied to smooth surfaces like walls or flat sunboard sheets. But standard vinyl prints are very stiff and cannot be stretched to cover curved surfaces (for example, the bonnet of a car)
Cast vinyl prints, on the other hand, conform to the shape and surface on which they are pasted. They can be stretched very much like a chewing gum to cover the contours of curved objects like a cylinder or a vehicle.
While sunboard prints are rigid—which can make transporting them over long distances challenging—we offer an alternative for clients holding outdoor exhibitions outside Pune.
This alternative print can be rolled up and carried in a compact plastic container. To learn more about this solution, visit the product page for exhibition posters here.
At Orchid Digitals, we also use heat guns to stretch this media and work it into deep recesses or grooves and stretch it around curves.
Moreover, after being pasted on such a challenging surface, the print does not develop ugly creases. You get a very smooth, wrinkle-free finish.
Do take a look at these two videos, where you will see how a printed vinyl sticker can be stretched without cracking or tearing. And how this stretchable property can be used to brand the uneven corrugated surface of a container truck!
Cast vinyl is known for its dimensional stability, especially in outdoor environments when exposed to heat and rain. This means it does not shrink or peel easily from the edges.
Here’s what happens: when you apply any print on a metallic surface (like a vehicle), it undergoes continuous stress. The metallic surface of the vehicle expands slightly during the day when exposed to heat and contracts at night as it cools. The vinyl print pasted on top of this surface also expands and contracts along with it.
Over time, under these constant stresses, an ordinary vinyl print (which is very non-pliable and stiff) will start losing adhesion and shrink back from the edges.
The glue or adhesion of the print weakens and begins to give way. The print can also develop unsightly wrinkles and creases, causing the image to look shabby and unattractive.
A cast vinyl print is flexible and stretchable, offering some give. This premium material also features extremely strong adhesion. As a result, the printed image on top of a metallic surface can stretch and contract with the surface beneath it.
It moulds perfectly to the shape and dimensions of the underlying substrate, clinging tightly like a stretchable Lycra T-shirt on a bodybuilder, expanding and contracting with each breath.
Cast vinyl prints can withstand the unpredictable elements of the weather. Most images printed on regular vinyl media begin fading when exposed to sunlight. We have all seen faded signages on motorways that look quite shabby.
Regular vinyl prints also harden and become brittle when exposed to heat. The image then starts to develop unsightly cracks.
However, cast vinyl media is specially manufactured to endure extreme temperatures without degrading. This material offers a very long outdoor lifespan and is generally resistant to rain and sunlight. It does not peel or crack even in the harshest weather conditions.
One such example is the 3M IJ 180C brand of vinyl media that we stock here at Orchid Digitals, Pune. According to the spec sheet on the 3M™ website, this cast vinyl media has a temperature tolerance of -60°C to +107 °C.
It also has a maximum durability of up to 7 years, and in my experience, it lasts even longer- a decade or more!
Finally, all our outdoor prints at Orchid Digitals also have an additional top coat of lamination film. So, in addition to heat and water damage, our printed image is also protected from dust and scratches.
The type of adhesive used in the vinyl media also plays a significant role in determining the final finish you can expect after applying the print to any surface.
Most premium rolls of vinyl use acrylic-based adhesive.
Acrylic adhesives are also known as structural adhesives because they form a permanent bond with the structure they are joining.
This adhesive typically provides better bonding strength than other types of glues used on standard rolls of vinyl. And this ensures that our prints remain firmly in place for many years.
3M™ also provides print media with respositionable capabilities. This means you can position the sticker, remove it, and adjust it until it’s perfectly aligned. After applying slight pressure and holding it steady, the adhesive activates to create a strong bond with the surface below.
This special glue lets you peel off and reposition the print multiple times until the image alignment is just right. Only then does the glue fully activate to secure the print firmly to the surface.
In contrast, monomeric vinyl is designed with a slightly more flexible composition, making it ideal for medium-term applications. This type is well-suited for items like vehicle graphics and wall decals, where durability and aesthetic appeal are important.
Monomeric vinyl typically offers a better range of colours and finishes compared to calendared vinyl, enhancing the visual quality of your prints.
By familiarising yourself with these key vinyl categories, you can make informed decisions that align with your project requirements. This understanding not only helps in achieving the desired quality of your prints but also allows you to manage your budget effectively, maximising the value of your investment in printing services.
We have a range of uncoated, coated, grey-back, bubble-free, and extreme weather vinyls at our end. We can even mount the same on the Sunboard. Do take a look at the variants section, on this page for more details on the same.
Extreme weather vinyl prints can withstand the vagaries of the weather and will not deteriorate when installed in outdoor locations. We have specialised rolls of vinyl that have a service temperature of as low as -45° C and as high as + 118° C.
These prints as installed on aircraft, ships, construction equipment, oil-pipelines, water tankers, solar heaters, vehicles, etc.
The prints we supply are great to look at. And your images will be reproduced at stunning resolutions. Hence this product is also referred to as ‘photo vinyl prints’ meant for presentation purposes.
People install these prints both indoors, and outdoors. But they will deteriorate after some time, if placed in exterior locations. For our door solutions you need to opt for extreme weather prints as explained in the point above.
You can also order glossy, matt, textured, metallic foil, transparent, frosted, tamper evident, wall vinyl, vehicle graphics, glow-in-the-dark, and night reflective vinyls from us.
Low quality inks start fading in the short duration. At Orchid Digitals, we use original OEM inks only. This ensures a very high print quality and inks that last for longer durations.
Ink fading is a function of a variety of factors like sunlight, frequent washing, exposure to heat, etc. And for longevity we always recommending a top coat of lamination.
Lamination on a vinyl print significantly enhances the life of the same. It will protect the film from dust, scratches, and everyday wear and tear.
An additional coat of lamination will marginally add to the cost of the job. But the same will prove to be a wise investment in the longer run.
You need a smooth surfaced wall. The paint on top has to be water insoluble. Eg. Oil paints work best.
There is a very strong glue on the backs of our wall vinyls. This is especially true of branded media like Avery™ and 3M™.
But if the paint is ‘kaccha’ or flaking, or if the wall has a rough surface, the end result will be uneven.
For best results, please ensure that your wall has a smooth finish and a top coat of luster paint or oil-paint. Water-based paints will NOT work.
Our prints can be pasted on smooth surfaces like glass panels and painted walls. For placing posters on rougher surfaces do opt for a sunboard print.
We print on rolls that have 3, 4, or 5 feet width. This means that you order a job having a maximum width of 5 feet. The length of the print can be as much, as you want it to.
For creating images larger than 5 feet in width, the job can be printed across several tiles or sections. These multiple tiles can later on be seamed/joined together to make one large banner.
Yes, you can install vinyl posters on your own. However, there are two things that you must be aware of:
1. Make sure that the base surface is clean and smooth
2. Spray a film of water on the surface where the job has to be pasted, and also on the adhesive back of the vinyl. This helps to reduce the initial strength of the glue and makes repositioning of the print easy.
After this initial prep, you can start pasting the print as follows:
1. Gently peel and start pasting vinyl starting from one corner.
2. Use a squeegee or handkerchief to smoothen the print on the surface.
3. Workout all the air bubbles and also the water to create a form bond between the adhesive and the surface beneath.
4. Use a pin to puncture any bubble that may have remained.
5. Leave the print to dry out for a few hours. The glue will now form a strong bond with the substrate beneath.
If the vinyl posters are small then installing them is pretty easy. But pasting a huge vinyl print is slightly more difficult. But follow the above steps and you should be fine.
Also, for our Pune based clients, do give us a call and and we’ll send across a team to help with the endpoint-installation.
We are pretty fast and most jobs get completed on the same day
We can work with a variety of file formats. Do share your job as a .jpg, .pdf, .png, Corel Draw for EPS file.
Also, do make sure that the file has a sufficiently high resolution. While our machines have the capability to reproduce images of stunning quality, a high input resolution of your file will make a difference.
The minimum size of print we can process is 3 feet X 4 feet. For sizes smaller than this the billing amount still remains the same as that of size 3 feet X 4 feet.
One print can off course contain multiple copies of smaller artworks
Yes. You can lay out multiple different designs or artworks in one print. As long as it matches our MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) we will be fine with processing the job.
